How to connect Android VPN using L2TP or PPTP
|If you’ve played around with the VPN settings on your Android phone, it is likely that you’ve seen the VPN feature as well.
In this post, I’ll try to answer questions such as ‘How to connect Android VPN’, ‘How to setup VPN on Android’ etc.
How to connect Android VPN using L2TP or PPTP
1. Navigate to the VPN settings
The VPN settings is usually located along with the Network settings of your Android phone.
On my phone, that’s how it looks. Once you’re there, tap the VPN option to setup a new Android VPN.
2. Add new VPN
Tap the + sign to add a new VPN.
3. Enter VPN settings
For L2TP enter the following:
Name: <VPN name of your choice>
Type: L2TP/IPSec PSK
Server address: <VPN server IP>
L2TP Secret: leave blank
IPSec identifier: leave blank
IPSec pre-shared key: <VPN pre-shared key>
Save the settings.
For PPTP enter the following:
Name: <VPN name of your choice>
Type: PPTP
Server address: <VPN server IP>
Save the settings
4. Connect VPN
After configuring, you should see the VPN listed like below:
Tap on the VPN to enter your VPN credentials
Click Connect after entering your Username and Password.
5. Check connection status
Tap on the connected VPN to check status
Troubleshooting:
- If L2TP VPN doesn’t connect, try changing the protocol to PPTP. This is because some networks block L2TP connections.
- If PPTP VPN doesn’t connect, try connecting without PPP Encryption (see PPTP section of Step 3).
